Wang, Duit, Pitih, Fulus, Ringgit, Sen, Dollar, Pound...

Assalamualaikum and hello to all...

I'm tired all over today... the charity rugby vs football match yesterday surely contributed much to it... it was pretty fun, quite a good crowd turned up although it rained for a while before kick-off... the first 40 minutes, we got battered by the football team 5 goals to nil... I started at left wing and played for about 20 minutes or so... most of us ruggers didn't feel that comfortable being attacked by our opponents with such speed and 'less' contact...

we did turn the game around in the second half, again I played left wing but for the final 20 minutes... we ran at least 7 tries against them without conceding any... luckily a try is equal to a goal, so the final score was 7-5 for the medics rugby... it could have been 35-7!!!

I spent the rest of the day in rusholme, at syed ibrahim's house... watched the whole chelsea-liverpool game, plus a 20-minutes period with me dozing off (half-time break not included!!!)... stopped over at a Yemeni brother's house after 'Asr in Shah Jalal Mosque... met him again outside the mosque after maghrib, this time with few other malaysians and yemenis... it surprised me when one of the yemeni brothers said that we Malaysians have this 'glow of Deen' on our faces... whatever it is, hopefully this 'glow' will always stay on me, together with all the necessary and sincere actions as a Muslim, insya Allah...

yesterday was also the day when all the JPA scholars throughout the world (i think...) received their living allowances (paid every 3 months)... my personal page in the JPA website looked like this:-

thanks a lot to JPA for your kindness, and for the 10% increment in the allowance... i also like to take this chance to thank all of my fellow Malaysians, especially the tax-payers, for 'indirectly' (i think the term 'directly' is more appropriate here...) assisting us in our studies overseas... please pray that all my friends and i will return as better citizens, to work and struggle in making Malaysia a better country, maintaining the well-being of the population, and above all, raising Islam and the Words of Allah to its most respected level... MAY ALLAH REWARDS US ALL ACCORDINGLY

"Our Lord!" (they say), "Let not our hearts deviate now after You hast guided us, but grant us mercy from Your own Presence; for You are the Grantor of bounties without measure."

Al-Istikharah

(excerpts from http://islam.about.com/blistikhara.htm and http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/Dua/How_to_do_Istakhara.htm)

This "prayer for guidance" is often used to help in important decision-making.

Anytime a Muslim is making a decision, he or she should seek Allah's guidance and wisdom.

Allah alone knows what is best for us, and there may be good in what we perceive as bad, and bad in what we perceive as good.

If you are ambivalent or unsure about a decision you have to make, there is a specific prayer for guidance (Salat-l-Istikhara) that you can do to ask for Allah's help in making your decision.

Should you marry this certain person? Should you attend this graduate school? Should you take this job offer or that one? Allah knows what is best for you, and if you are not sure about a choice that you have, seek His guidance.

The Prophet Muhammad said, "If one of you is concerned about some practical undertaking, or about making plans for a journey, he should perform two cycles (rak'atain) of voluntary prayer." Then he/she should say the following du'a:

"O Allah! I seek goodness from Your Knowledge and with Your Power (and Might) I seek strength, and I ask from You Your Great Blessings, because You have the Power and I do not have the power. You Know everything and I do not know, and You have knowledge of the unseen.

Oh Allah! If in Your Knowledge this action (which I intend to do) is better for my religion and faith, for my life and end [death], for here [in this world] and the hereafter then make it destined for me and make it easy for me and then add blessings [baraka'] in it, for me.

O Allah! In Your Knowledge if this action is bad for me, bad for my religion and faith, for my life and end [death], for here [in this world] and the hereafter then turn it away from me and turn me away from it and whatever is better for me, ordain [destine] that for me and then make me satisfied with it."

May Peace of Allah be Upon Him...

assalamualaikum warahmatullah and hello...

what a weekend... MCOT's maulid celebration, IMAM exco meeting, MCOT sports carnival... plus a short, sleepy stint on the motorway on saturday night... had to stop twice at the services... the first one was to take a 15-minutes nap, and the second was to answer nature's emergency call...

i wasn't feeling really well since saturday afternoon, and the impact was best (or is it worse???) felt today... however, thanks to Allah, i was given strength to go through the day in hospital (as a student, not a patient) without much problem...

the schedule tomorrow is similar to today's, if not longer... a clinical teaching session with dr. paul bannister (our new consultant for the new medical firm) at 9.30am, followed by 1st pbl session for case 8 at 11.30. then there's a lecture at 1pm plus another teaching session at 3pm, this time with dr. picton, a renal consultant...

the enjoyable part will be on wednesday, insya allah i hope... just one teaching session in the morning with dr mike cheshire (another consultant in our firm), and a free afternoon... then there will be a charity match between the medics football and rugby teams... game will start at 2.30pm, at the armitage centre... 40 minutes of 11-a-side football in the first half, and another 40 minutes of 15s rugby in the second... looking forward to thrash the footballers (in terms of points scored, since a try in rugby count as 5 points!!!)

anyway, better to stop my ramblings and venture to something more mind-opening... WHAT IS LIFE WITHOUT FAITH??? and how do we actually recognized and remember this man who enjoined us to the Faith in Allah, the One and Only God... this man, who with his pool of Companions, sacrificed all that they have in the way of Allah, with the sole goal to put Islam at its proper place: the numero uno of all faiths... not just number one, but also as the only true faith which can guide all of us mankind to the Land of the Blessed... so, let us all take this opportunity now (for those who haven't yet), to say our blessings for Muhammad the Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him... and let this practice be a routine to us, up until the Final Day... insya allah...

" You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah. " Al-Ahzab 33:21

" Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you that believe! Send your blessings on him, and salute him with all respect. " Al-Ahzab 33:56

The prophet said, "I have not been sent but to complete noble attributes (Makarimal-Akhlaq)" (Muslim)

No pain, no gain: ISLAM is the WAY OF LIFE

assalamualaikum warahmatullah and hello everyone

kabare semua??? i feel a bit "musykil" lah why we Muslims never bring this kind of report to the highest level.. we should have known better, shouldn't we? or is there another being out there who doesn't like this sort of finding to surface up? to maintain the "status quo" maybe? hopefully i'm not bringing up a false report (thousand apologies if it is).

http://mosnews.com/news/2005/03/28/nopainnogain.shtml

Muslim reported in his Sahih:-

Book 17, Number 4226:
Anas b. Malik reported that a person who had drink wine was brought to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him). He gave him forty stripes with two lashes. Abu Bakr also did that, but when Umar (assumed the responsibilities) of the Caliphate, he consulted people and Abd al-Rahman said: The mildest punishment (for drinking) is eighty (stripes) and 'Umar then prescribed this punishment.

p.s:-btw, Muslims can just disregard the part in para 4, which says "the effect is better if caning is by someone of the opposite sex."

Russian Scientists Suggest Caning to Cure Drug Addicts

A group of Russian scientists has suggested caning as a treatment for those who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction as well as depression and suicidal tendencies, the Izvestia daily reports.

The name of the report delivered at the international conference on new methods of treating addictions is “Pain affliction as a method of treatment for addictive behavior and other manifestations of non-vitalistic activity”. Scientists claim that drug addiction, alcoholism, suicidal behavior and psychosomatic disorders are all caused by a lack of zest for life. When a patient is caned, the body starts producing endorphins — happiness hormones — and life seems attractive again.

The recommended treatment course is 30 sessions of 60 cane strokes, delivered on the buttocks by a person of average build. The method has been tested on volunteers and the results are said to be positive.

The scientists claim the effect of the treatment is even greater if a patient is caned by a doctor of the opposite sex.

The author of the method, Doctor Sergei Speransky told the newspaper that people often asked if he was a masochist. “No, I am not a classic masochist,” the doctor said.
